Vasista Dharmasutra has been traditionally allied with Rigveda. In the present day, we often come across conflicting views between the judiciary and the populace. This also does open up the discussion regarding who needs to be at the high table, interpreting and sometimes, making laws.
Vasista, in this sutra, outlines the necessary qualifications of the members in the legal assembly. It is as follows:
It will consist a minimum of 10 members
Four of them will be each proficient in one of the four Vedas
There will be a translator
One member will be an expert on the adjuncts to the Vedas
One of them will be a legal scholar
Three of the remaining members will be from different orders of life, each being a well-respected individual
